Although I am fairly new to the Philly music scene, one band that I had discovered right when I had gotten to Temple and who continues to impress me is a Philly band who goes by the name of Man Man. The band consists of Ryan Kattner and Christopher Powell, along with various other rotating members. They have released four albums since 2004, and notably toured with Modest Mouse on a string of U.S. tour dates. The band's latest album, On Oni Pond, released in 2013 and featuring the promising single "Head On (Hold On to Your Heart)", has been a huge leap forward for the band musically.
They have been known to be mostly electronic and experimental, but the new album delivers a more focused approach towards poppy funky rock. That sounds a bit odd, as their sound can seem all over the place at times, but when the band is at it's best they provide infectious melodies with catchy harmonies that keep the listener listening. I highly suggest them and I plan on seeing the band live the next time they come to Philadelphia.
